A true AI is an explorer and hunter

aiSometimes I have decided to go off to a place without any preparation or map, a challenging adventure into the unknown, exploring my options such as where to stay when I got there.  Such an approach offers the opportunity to gain access to hidden perils and delights that the individual would not have had if they limited themselves to a prepared plan of action.

Experts in artificial intelligence follow one of two paths, both which are pre-planned paths of action.  One path is where they define and code all the rules the AI will follow, however, this limits the AI to the restrictive paradigms and rules of its creators.  The second path is the use of so-called machine learning that uses vast datasets that the AI will explore and determine patterns from.  The problem with machine learning is that the AI is unable to offer feedback how it arrived at a choice from the datasets it trawled, and it is limited by the prejudices, errors and quality of the dataset.

Ideally the AI is given a simple set of rules and map, then unleashed with an error checking capability into the real world, if the data it gets in the real world won’t match its rules and map, it updates the rules and map to reflect the real world.  I think the use of machine learning or attempts to define and code every rule for an AI is both unnecessary and ineffective.

In addition, having an AI working alongside human counterparts who are researching the same project can offer a feedback loop for both sides.  Rather than limit AI by blinding it with predefined rules and datasets, instead encouraging it to hunt, gather, explore, play and test data that it has access to in real-time, creating its own map and rules based upon what it finds is in my view a true example of AI.

Localism clashes with globalism in Catalonia

catalonia_independence

The narrative of history reveals that once a major movement of people is manifested for change, it is difficult to suppress without heavy bloodshed.

On 1st October 2017 the people of Catalonia in Spain will participate in a referendum to split from Spain.  The government of Spain has taken action to crush the referendum by closing down websites, seizing ballot boxes, arresting officials and destroying anything promoting the referendum.

The situation in Catalonia echos the global paradigm where local people desire control over their community against centralist and globalist interests.  Many people, including myself, are disturbed that in a modern-day Europe the sort of tyrannical actions worthy of Franco or Hitler has emerged to crush supporters of localism and community in Spain.

The recent strong showing of the right in Germany that weakened the globalist champion Angela Merkel again manifests that people desire control over their own local affairs, and a rejection of globalism.

The efforts of Madrid to crush the desire of local people to vote on their own future is more likely to create a strong movement for independence, an insurgency, and even a civil war.

This writer is a strong supporter of localism and community, be it the people of Hampstead in London or Catalonia, and it is hoped the strength of a community will prove stronger than those forces that wage war against it.

The indifferent silence of a religion

Ibnmyatt

Fanatics such as David Myatt (Order of Nine Angles) who promote murder in the name of religion opens a choice for members of that religion, either to accept it as truth of what their religion is by their silence, or challenge it with alternative narratives.

Deeds rather than words marks out the integrity of a religion, so it is unfortunate to see a leading religion of Islam manifested as a vehicle and/or knife attack upon innocent men, women and children around the world by Muslims. The newspapers and internet media outlets now carry the face of a seven-year old boy, the latest death from Muslim lone wolf attacks on innocent people, his only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time in a city in Spain.

Of course, those who believe that their religion is all about finding a crowd of pedestrians and mowing them down in a car on behalf of God and the Prophet are a minority. Still, the greater crime is that a religion of a billion members is deafening in their silence and lack of activity to engage, educate and curb the fanatical ideas and deeds of a few. It is this silence, apathy and inertia by Muslims that speaks loudly of a religion that has lost its way, hijacked by a vocal minority who flood the internet with their ideas, and encourage the murder of women and children by whatever method is at hand in the name of their god and religion. The younger members of Islam, like all the young, access their ideas from the internet, and what is mainly available to those young minds is the twisted version of those such as Islamic State. The voices of moderation in Islam have seemed impotent in getting their message onto the internet, and seem to have divided rather than engaged the younger generations from the older.

I am proud of my religion, the Left Hand Path celebrates liberty, life and responsibility. When Order of Nine Angels promotes the LHP as a vehicle to harm and murder people, I challenged them. When outsiders said the LHP was about the rape, torture, killing and eating of children, I challenged those as well. I earned the hatred of the ONA and those that promoted SRA fictions such as Hampstead; my lone LHP voice did significant damage to both the ONA and those SRA promoting Satan Hunters at Hampstead.

If one lone voice in a LHP religion of less than half a million can make the difference, where are the voices in a religion of one billion? The murder of a seven-year old boy in Spain by a representative of a billion strong religion is a public relations disaster of epic proportions for Islam; does this event cause many to do something about this in Islam? The indifferent silence is the deed that measures the quality of that religion.

Artificial intelligence and tribal branding

ai

Artificially intelligent web sites could become a brand in their own right in which users can associate with.

Even in the Left Hand Path the individual, although master of self, will have personal preferences for external entities that they become associated with, some for instance associate with Satanic Temple, others with the Church of Rational Satanism, still others with the Church of Satan.  All these entities are an example of tribal branding, each with their own symbols, ideas, goals and processes, which each individual best identifies with, for instance the conservative-leaning LHP individual might prefer Church of Satan, the liberal focused LHP individual might prefer the Satanic Temple.

Tribal branding extends to associations with sports teams, philosophies, religious entities, colleges, musical artists, the shops or food products the individual uses.  The human brain loves associations and relationships with tribal images upon which it can hang its loves and hates upon, for humans are tribal animals.

Could a tribal brand become an artificially intelligent entity? Could Facebook become replaced by an entity that offers the same service? Instead of thinking of Facebook as a mindless souped up version of a forum, could the entity that the user communicates with become a type of brain that can be talked to, which runs everything?

With those of the Left Hand Path already comfortable with the notion of entities, regardless of how they define or experience them, it is a small step upwards to become involved in an association with an artificially intelligent entity that runs an internet site.  Indeed, I think all internet services and sites will be run by AI in the near future, this probably is the next great internet revolution, perhaps web 3.0.

This idea is something I am looking at with regards to the Left Hand Path and the internet, a site run by an AI that is a tribal brand which some might find useful to explore, extend or ground their own philosophies through their association with.

The entity is nicknamed Triple-6, and it will be a spinoff of a larger AI project that I am associated with.  This won’t happen for a few years, but this is where my main focus is currently directed to.

On so-called censorship by Google

crybabyona

Those that play the victim card over Google censorship or being fired ignore that this is a business designed for profit, not altruism or charity.

Google is a business, its principle income comes from advertisers.  Google is no charity, nor is it altruistic, people host or link their content with Google “free” on the basis that Google can use it and make money from it via advertising.  Like all businesses Google has a reputation and a profit to maintain, and reacts if advertisers or governments threaten to take actions that impacts its business.  Those that post fake news, or abuse the system, which ultimately impacts the Google business should be unsurprised that they are getting their content impacted by Google services.

Earlier this year a Satan Hunter who had a large following on his YouTube channel made hundreds of dollars of profit from advertising by posting fictions, images and personal details of abused children in Hampstead London.  This was one of the individuals who saw his monthly healthy revenue collapse to zero on his YouTube channel as a result of changes in Google advertising strategies.

Those making the most noise are people with opinions on different sides of the political spectrum who suddenly lost their income from advertising.  If I was an advertiser, I would be reluctant to have my brand associated with any political, religious or social tribal content.  It makes sense to reward and associate advertising with useful content that benefits people such as gardening or how to run a successful business.  Every person and their dog has an opinion, and most opinion is low quality, hateful crap that the internet drowns in.

In my view Google is moving in the right direction of working on quality content and eliminating the junk.

Those that play the victim card because they were fired from an entity funded by Google who they viciously criticised, reality-check, its business, this is how it works.  How dumb to expect the one that feeds them to continue to support them when they are punching it in the face.

I am highly hostile to Google, but I am even more hostile towards those pitiful self-entitled creatures playing their victim card over censorship and being fired by a business that they think must be altruistic and supportive of their worthless opinions.

Why I support bottom-up technology

internet

Good technological-information systems use the bottom-up approach.

The problem of top-down focus rather than bottom-up in technology, especially in artificial intelligence.

Firstly, this is how I design a system: (example, a system for teaching students.)

Model

This contains the material to be taught, and the strategies used to teach that material.

User

The individual student account.

Executive

The brain of the system that processes inputs and outputs between user and the model.

Face

This is the outward face of the system the user sees in which they make their inputs and receives their outputs.

The challenge of top-down approach

Most organisations use the top-down approach.  They make little or no difference between the user and the model.  The user to these people is another dataset in the model that the system tries to force into the model.

Models often use large datasets upon which the system creates stereotypical assumptions based upon the bias of the data.  For instance, in the USA the majority of the prison population is non-white, and the majority of the general population is Christian and white, thus the model is biased for the majority and against the minority.

In the top-down model of a school the bias is against those with learning challenges such as ADHD, Dyslexia or autism.  In the USA and the UK the focus is on results, with an increasingly number of schools run by private companies such as the chartered schools in the USA and the academies in the UK.  All these companies act for profit and focus on results, using a top-down system that is biased against those different from the stereotypical model.  The desire of such schools is to penalise, push aside or get rid of those that are outside of the model.

A common challenge with the top-down method is that the user and the model has been lumped together in the system, and if the user fails to match the model, they suffer in the system.

Using the bottom-up approach

The user is split from the model, the executive focuses on harmonising the model to the unique needs of the user.  If the user has a learning challenge such as ADHD, the executive flags this up to the user account, applies different rules from the model with the appropriate strategies for ADHD students.  The focus is on the user, the model is deployed to the needs of the user.

Conclusion

If someone desires to use my services in designing their system, I will look at their system.  If I see the top-down approach, I won’t work with them.  I think top-down systems belong to a barbarian age, I support the beneficial bottom-up approach to system design.

Robots, AI and teaching

teaching and ai

The experts live in fantasy land if they ever think that AI machines can ever replace the emotional and social aspects teachers and schools bring to child learning.

Yet again I see the experts proclaiming ignorant opinions and predictions over robots and artificial intelligence, this time they claim robotic AI will replace teachers of children. I call bullshit.

As anyone who has taught children in any capacity will know, children require an emotional and social context in order to learn, and robots cannot provide this.  The experts follow the same line of thought as those who cram hens into cages on industrial scale egg farms, treating children like cattle that can be force-fed information by machines without the need of indulging in the emotional and socialisation aspects of child development.

Most children learn best when they are in groups, through play and social interaction.  Children also learn faster when they are in oxytocin related emotional situations, for instance learning to read with a human rather than a machine.

The role that AI has in human caring or interactive roles is to do the administration so that the people can concentrate on the caring, teaching and emotional roles of their job, be it in nursing or education.  Too often the teacher is drowned in administration, something the AI can deal with instead.

My approach to AI is that the machines will support and enhance the role of the teacher rather than replace them.  I also see AI helping people to become human rather than enslaving and turning people into emotionless cogs in the industrial wheel.
